Preserving and Creating Holiday Traditions and Memories

Holiday Traditions Worksheet | the Krafty Owl

The holiday season is just around the corner and it’s never too early to start organizing your plan. The best place to start is with what is most important to you and your family during that time.

Creating Family Traditions and Memories

Almost everyone has special family traditions for the holidays but have you ever taken the time to write them down and document them?  What do you remember most from Christmas’ growing up? The memories that seem to last the longest for most of us are those that are bound in great family Christmas traditions.

During the busy holidays, it’s easy to lose sight of the things that are most important to you and your family. I urge you to take the time to record your stories so they will be around for generations to come. Creating a December Daily album is a fabulous way to document your entire holiday season. We love being able to look back and see how things have changed over the years.

You can’t possibly incorporate every idea you come across so take the time to talk about which traditions are most important to each member of your family. As you choose your favorites, record them on the Our Family Favorites Worksheet. Your list can be a working document so that you can make notes about things you want to do differently in the future.

To help keep things simple, try to find ways to combine traditions whenever possible. For example, sip on hot chocolate and snack on your favorite holiday treats during your favorite holiday movie or listen to Christmas music while you decorate cookies.

Create New Traditions

Start brainstorming any new activities you’d like to try this year. They don’t necessarily have to be brand new activities, they could just be changes to existing traditions, like adding one or two new recipes to your Christmas baking tradition or adding a new neighborhood to your travels when looking at Christmas lights around town.
