Hi friends, I don’t usually get too personal here but I have some awesome news and I want to share it with all of you. First, you need a little back story though. Last August my nana was diagnosed with cancer. We were told that it was pretty bad and that she needed surgery as soon as possible. If that wasn’t enough, the week before her surgery, she lost her balance and fell which dislocated her shoulder. The doctor tried but was not able to keep it in place and said she would need complete reconstruction surgery, but he also told her she had to wait because of the cancer and the impending chemotherapy treatments.
Fast forward 8 months and tonight we are going out to dinner to celebrate Nana’s 85 birthday and the fact that all her tests have come back cancer free! YAY!!!
It has been a very tough road and it’s not over, she has a few treatments to finish then hopefully she will be able to get her shoulder repaired.
I don’t know if any of you have ever had to take care of an elderly or sick parent or grandparent but I don’t think there is a harder task out there. You don’t realize it at the time…or if you’re like me, you don’t want to admit it but you need help. Lots of it! Don’t be afraid to ask people to help you, the worst they can say is no.
Most of all, don’t forget to take care of yourself. Remember, you are no good to anyone else if you’re burned out or stressed out. Find a good support system and know that it’s okay to lean on them when you need to. I don’t know what I would have done without my best friend during this whole process. He lets me cry when I need to cry and yell when I need to yell. He says, “It’s better for you to yell at me then to let Nana see you upset”…now isn’t that the sweetest man ever?!
On a lighter note, I created this pretty little layout in my bullet journal to show you what I’ve been up to currently…
What have you been up to lately?
